Special Announcement

The Noble Foundation / OSU Plant Bionet Travel Awards

The Noble Foundation and the OSU Plant Biotechnology Network (Bionet) announce the establishment of Bionet Travel Awards to assist young OSU scientists in presenting their research results at prestigious scientific meetings. Approximately $5,000 is available for 10 awards annually. These awards are open to students, post-docs and technicians in Bionet labs. Selection of awardees will be determined twice a year (March and November) by the Bionet Travel Award Committee based on established selection criteria. Successful candidates will receive financial support up to $750 to help cover registration fees, lodging, and travel expenses.

Selection Criteria:

  1. An abstract of the presentation must accompany the application.
  2. The applicant must be the presenter of the work.
  3. Priority will be given to individuals who have not previously received this award.
  4. Students, post-docs, and technicians are eligible as long as they are still at OSU.
  5. Visibility and prestige of the meeting will be considered.
  6. Presenters who have entered into a presentation or research competition in their professional society will be given special consideration.
  7. The entire OSU Bionet group should be well represented.

*. The realities of the selection process may require additional selection criteria, and the Bionet Travel Award Committee retains the right to make modifications and/or additions.

Application Procedure:

Submit five copies of a complete application, including application form, an abstract of the presentation, and an estimate of meeting expenses to Dr. Yinghua Huang, 104 LSE, by the deadline (October 31, 2006 and Feb. 28, 2007).

After the meeting, a final copy of the abstract must be submitted along with a copy of the travel voucher for reimbursement. The awardee needs to follow normal procedures for completing travel forms in your home department, and then contact the Plant Bionet Coordinator in the Botany Department to add the Bionet grant number to the form. Awardees may be asked to discuss their experiences at a future Bionet meeting.
