OSU Plant BioNet Minisymposium on Plant Cell Regulatory Networks

Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma

May 12, 2004

The OSU Plant BioNet Minisymposium on Plant Cell Regulatory Networks featuring invited talks by Dr. C. Pikaard, Washington University, St. Louis, Dr. J. Kieber, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Dr. S.P. Dinesh-Kumar, Yale University, and Dr. R. Vierstra, University of Wisconsin, Madison, was held May 12, 2004 on the campus of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK.

The purpose of this minisymposium was to bring to the OSU campus four excellent scientists to speak about their research. The focus of the talks was Plant Cell Regulatory Networks. The title of the talks were "Turning rRNA genes on and off through concerted changes in DNA methylation and histone modification" (C. Pikaard), "Role of 2-component phosphorelay elements in cytokinin signaling" (J. Kieber), "Innate immunity and RNAi in plants" (S.P. Dinesh-Kumar), and "The ubiquitin/26S proteasome pathway: The 800 lb gorilla in post-transcriptional regulation" (R. Vierstra).

The minisymposium was a one day event with the invited speakers visiting with small groups of scientists from OSU or the Noble Foundation in the morning, followed by an informal pizza lunch before the afternoon talks by the four speakers: Dr. C. Pikaard, Dr. J. Kieber, Dr. S.P. Dinesh-Kumar, and Dr. R. Vierstra. The talks were followed by a catered dinner before the conclusion of the meeting.

Over 100 individuals representing research laboratories from OSU, OU and the S.R. Noble Foundation attended this minisymposiuim.
