Second Oklahoma Minisymposium in Molecular Plant Biology

Wes Watkins Center, Stillwater, Oklahoma

March 20-21, 2003

The Second Molecular Plant Biology Conference featuring research programs at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Oklahoma State University, and University of Oklahoma was held March 20-21, 2003 at the Wes Watkins Center, Stillwater, OK.

The purpose of this conference was to showcase existing strengths in cellular and molecular plant biology throughout the region and to encourage greater networking among  participating laboratories.  A major focus of this year's conference was Medicago genomics.
The conference this year was organized into five major sections: (a) overviews of research at the Noble Foundation, University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University; (b) short talks by new investigators; (c) an evening poster session designed to present additional details on scientific projects; (d) short research talks; and (e) a workshop on Medicago truncatula.
Over 150 individuals representing 35 research laboratories at the three different institutions attended this important conference.  This represented a significant step towards meeting the conference objective of improving the international visibility, local recognition, and state support of research, education, and outreach programs in molecular and cellular plant biology across Oklahoma.
We thank the Plant Biology Division of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation for financial support of this conference, Marc McClure for his role in helping organize the conference, and David Demezas for preparing the information package.

Feedback on the meeting structure and content is encouraged in order to better plan for future meetings.

Best Regards,

David Meinke, Oklahoma State University
