First Molecular Plant Biology Conference of Oklahoma

Myriad Convention Center, Oklahoma City

October 7, 2000

Welcome to the first Molecular Plant Biology Conference featuring research  programs at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma.  You are encouraged to make a special effort to meet participants from other institutions with complementary interests and research expertise.

The purpose of this inaugural conference is to showcase existing strengths in cellular and molecular plant biology throughout the region and to encourage greater networking among  participating laboratories.
The conference this year is organized into four major sections: (a) brief overview talks from principal investigators; (b) a catered lunch with an  opportunity to meet individuals from other laboratories and institutions; (c) an afternoon poster session designed to present additional details on scientific projects; and (d) time reserved later in the afternoon for continued informal discussions at the conference center or at the botanical garden across the street.
We are pleased to announce that over 136 individuals representing 35 research laboratories at the three different institutions have decided to attend this important conference.  This represents a significant first step towards meeting our common objective of improving the international visibility, local recognition, and state support of research, education, and outreach programs in molecular and cellular plant biology across Oklahoma.
We thank the Plant Biology Division of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation for financial support of this conference.  We also thank Scotty McGill for her major role in organizing the conference and preparing the information package and Allyson Wilkins and Marilyn Nance for additional support in these activities.

Please give us feedback on the meeting structure and content in order to better plan for future meetings.

Best Regards,

Rick Nelson, Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation David Meinke, Oklahoma State University     Scott Russell, University of Oklahoma
